events for her 2011 book of poetry, The Throne of Psyche, and has begun
readings and talks for her brand new novel, A Death at the White Camellia
Orphanage (Mercer University Press - Winner of The Ferrol Sams Award for
Fiction.) Recently she was tapped as a 2012 judge for The National Book
Award in Young People's Literature, so she will be busy reading when she's not
on the road. Although only two of her nine books are intended for children, The
National Book Foundation felt that she would bring "a fresh angle of
vision" to the panel of judges. Meanwhile, Mercer University Press has
nominated the A Death at the White Camellia Orphanage for The National
Book Award in Fiction and the Pulitzer...

May 24, 2012 - Jim Minick Book Signing of The Blueberry Years: A Memoir of Farm and Family

Start: 05/24/2012 - 6:30pm

End: 05/24/2012 - 6:30pm

"The Blueberry Years is a mouthwatering and
delightful memoir based on Jim Minick's experiences as an organic blueberry
farmer. This story of one couple, one farm, and one thousand bushes transports
readers so that they experience the joys and frustrations of creating and
operating one of the mid-Atlantic's first certified-organic, pick-your-own
blueberry farms. Written by a farmer who also is a poet, The Blueberry Years
follows in the vein of The Omnivore's Dilemma or Animal, Vegetable, Miracle,
where lyrical writing captures a well-told story about food, family, and the
choices we make with every bite"--Cover, p. 2.

June 14, 2012 - Robert Goolrick Book Signing of Heading Out to Wonderful

Start: 06/14/2012 - 5:30pm

End: 06/14/2012 - 7:30pm

In "Heading Out to Wonderful," an attractive and enigmatic
stranger--Charlie Beale, a loner, recently home from the war in Europe--wanders
into the town of Brownsburg, a sleepy village of only a few hundred people
nestled in the Valley of Virginia. He brings with him two suitcases: one
contains all his worldly possessions, including a set of butcher's knives; the
other is full of money.Charlie quickly finds a job at the local butcher shop and
through his work there meets all the townspeople, most notably Sam Haislett, the
five-year-old son of the shop's owner, and Sylvan Glass, the beautiful,
eccentric teenage bride of the town's richest man. What no one anticipates is
how the interaction of these three people will alter the town forever, and how
the passion that flares between Charlie and Sylvan will mark young Sam for
life.Told through the eyes of Sam, now an older man looking back on that time,
this much-anticipated follow-up to "A Reliable Wife "is an exciting, erotically
charged, and altogether unforgettable story of love gone terribly wrong in a
place where once upon a time such things could happen.
